Open Farm Sunday

We held a very successful “Open Farm Sunday” event on June 10th.  Several hundred visitors came along and enjoyed a mini Farmer’s Market with stalls including Sarah Green Organics, Lyon Brothers Beef selling their locally Aberdeen Angus beef, Birthe’s Kitchen local chutneys and with Double S Cakes and My Choc O' Leight providing sweet things.

If you would like to see pictures of the day why not take a look at our photograph album.

Champion Moo

In July we reported that the Smith’s at Clacton have won Supreme Champion with one of their girls at the Royal Norfolk Show.  We are really pleased for them and very proud that Wigboro Altarush Durose was bred from one of our cows at Bradfields.  They have raised her into a beautiful cow.

Sarah Green's Organics Vegetable Boxes coming to the Farm from September 21st

From Friday 21st September, Bradfields Farm will be a collection point for Sarah Green's Organics Vegetable Box Scheme.  This is a weekly or fortnightly delivery of a wide selection of seasonal organic vegetables grown on their Farm in Tillingham throughout the year.  Collection will from a collection point during dairy shop open hours 8am to 6pm.  You can pre order online at the Sarah Green’s Organics website, so why not check out what they have and register with them.

‘Simply Delicious’ Extra Thick Cream

We are delighted to have been awarded a Great Taste star for our Bradfields Farm Extra Thick Cream in this year's competition.  Receiving a one-star rating means judges dubbed our cream a food that delivers fantastic flavour, simply delicious.  Always on sale at the Farm!

Crème Fraiche on the way

We have been trialling Crème Fraiche, made from our award winning extra thick cream.  So far the response has been positive and we will have it for sale soon, once we have finished testing.

Get your probiotic yogurt drinks and milkshakes

You may have noticed that we have occasionally had new probiotic yogurt drinks and milkshakes on sale in our shop at the Farm on.  We don’t yet have these on sale all the time, but do contact us and pre-order from us if you would like some.

Farmers Markets

As well as the monthly local markets that we normally attend at Rochford and Leigh-on-Sea, we have recently been at the London Farmers Market at Blackheath every Sunday from 10.00 until 2.00.  It has been a really good market for us and well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Changeable Climate!

What a variable year of weather we have had so far!  In April we were under water with mud everywhere and in August we blogged pictures of the scorched fields around the time of the so called “Furnace Friday”.

The poor girls were just nibbling at whatever they can find with the result that we are now having to use the sileage that we cut in the spring to feed to the cows during the summer.  We have seen some sustained rainfall since and the grass is recovering, but we will need to keep using our stocks of sileage in greater amounts than is normal for the summer.  Unfortunately, this means that some more farms will have to let go of cows simply because they will not be able to afford to feed cows through the winter.  We are hoping for rosy skies, but times aren’t easy.

Thanks for reading this.  We hope that you have enjoyed it.  Do get in touch with us about any ideas, comments or questions.
