Changeable Climate!
What a variable year of weather we have had so far! In April we were under water with mud everywhere and in August we blogged pictures of the scorched fields around the time of the so called “Furnace Friday”.
The poor girls were just nibbling at whatever they can find with the result that we are now having to use the sileage that we cut in the spring to feed to the cows during the summer. We have seen some sustained rainfall since and the grass is recovering, but we will need to keep using our stocks of sileage in greater amounts than is normal for the summer. Unfortunately, this means that some more farms will have to let go of cows simply because they will not be able to afford to feed cows through the winter. We are hoping for rosy skies, but times aren’t easy. |
